This is a "homily in action."  Jesus performs an act of humble service for those who will have to dedicate themselves to that kind of humble service as his leaders of the Church he establishes.  Those who allow their feet to be washed are saying, "Yes, Lord.  I am willing to serve to the point of sacrifice, just as you have made that commitment."
