Hello everyone! I am Fr. Cletus Orji, a native of Eziawa, in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. Imo State is one of the five states that make up the eastern part of Nigeria, where about 98% of the people are Christians, majority Catholics. I was born in 1983 to the family of Late Mr. Boniface Orji and Mrs. Veronica Orji. I am number six of the nine children of my parents. I have four brothers and four sisters, though I lost one of my sisters in 2014. After my kindergarten in 1989, I had my primary education at Community Primary School II, Eziawa, from 1989 to 1995. Following my primary education, I moved to Technical School, where I studied for one year (1995-1996), and then left for Comprehensive Secondary School, Eziawa, from 1996-2002, where I completed my secondary education (High School). For my priestly formation, I attended Dominican Institute of Philosophy and Theology (now Dominican University), an affiliate Institute of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, where I studied and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy from 2006 to 2010. Prior to my theological studies, I went to the University of Ibadan for a Master Program in Bioethics, where I earned my M.Sc. Degree in Bioethics, from 2012 to 2014. After this, I was invited by Archbishop Aymond to the United States to continue my formation to the priesthood. I arrived in the United States on July 7, 2014, and immediately enrolled in a Master of Divinity Program at Notre Dame Seminary, New Orleans, where I spent four years (2014 to 2018) and earned my M. Div. Degree in Theology. During my time at the Notre Dame Seminary, I visited many parishes in our Archdiocese to share my vocation story with the parishioners. In 2015, I did my summer assignment at St. Joan of Arc Parish, La Place, which is my home parish in the United States. In 2017, I was ordained a Transitional Deacon by Archbishop Aymond and was sent to St. Pius X, New Orleans, where I did my Diaconate Internship. After my graduation in 2018, Archbishop Aymond, on June 2nd, ordained me to the priesthood of Jesus Christ. For my first assignment as a priest, Archbishop Aymond sent me to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Slidell, where I spent three years as a Parochial Vicar. Two years ago (2021), I received a letter from the Archbishop informing me that he was transferring me to St. Edward the Confessor Parish, Metairie, as a Parochial Vicar. Hence, I spent two years at St. Edward’s. As you know, Archbishop Aymond recently appointed me pastor of Transfiguration of the Lord Church. I am happy to be here. I know, for sure, that God has so much in stock for all of us here. I pray for the repose of the soul of our former pastor, Fr. Paul Desrosiers. May his soul rest in peace. Amen. Moreover, I thank Msgr. Ken Hedrick for all that he did for our parish while he was here as the administrator. May God bless him richly.
